Scripture: “They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.” – Psalm 144:4 (NIV)
This past few weeks have had some sad moments for the HOG membership. We
did Russ’ Memorial ride, Eva Joy’s little sister was tragically killed in an accident
and Paul’s wife passed away while receiving cancer treatments. It is shocking and
painful to lose friends and loved ones suddenly. This scripture reminds us that life
is fleeting and we don’t know when it will be our turn to keep our appointment
with God.
Yet, it is heartwarming to see us come together and support those who have lost
loved ones. We check on one another, give great hugs and lend a helping hand.
We show loving-kindness to each other, just as God has commanded us to do.
When we are young, we feel invincible, as if life has no ending. We ride with the
wind and don’t look back. As we age, we become more in touch with our frailty
and our mortality. Hopefully, we gain wisdom in our journey through life and ride
a little slower. King Solomon reminds us that there is a time for everything:
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven; a time to
be born, and a time to die; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn
and a time to dance. – Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, 4 (NKJV)
God doesn’t want us to fear death because he took care of it through Jesus. Jesus
died in his earthly body but rose again and conquered spiritual death. He gives us
hope that when we die in this body, that we will gain eternal life by believing in
him. We go from one kind of life to another life which has no ending, nor tears,
nor pain. We are not annihilated; our consciousness lives.
Let us thank God for the days that we have on this earth and pray that we will see
our loved ones again, in heaven. In the meantime, we enjoy the wind therapy we
get from him.
Blessings, Laurie
